Physics Challenge for Teachers and Students

Zander Haws ’18 was notified that he correctly solved the “Physics Challenge for Teachers and Students” in the February edition of The Physics Teacher Magazine. He was one of only two students on the list of correct solutions, the rest being teachers, professors, and others in the field. All of these “contributors” names are published in this month’s Physics Teacher magazine. Previous students with published solutions include Toto Chen, Sam Rogers, and Christian Gaetz.

But even more impressively, this was the first time Mr. Miller has had a student continue to seek out, attempt and submit the “TPT challenge” solutions completely independently. The first he knew of it was when Zander told Mr. Miller he had correctly solved it. Why is this important? One of Mr. Miller’s favorite things about Saint John’s Prep is that we teach students to take risks and not be afraid to fail. In other words, we all help instill intellectual curiosity and grit. What a wonderful example this was of a student seeking out challenges and fearlessly leaping!  Great job, Zander!
