Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Edwin M. Neisen, 89 of Maple Grove, formerly of Cold Spring and Watkins, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins. Ed passed away peacefully at Arbor Lakes Senior Living in Maple Grove on Wednesday, January 4, 2017. Fr. Aaron Nett will officiate. Casket bearers will be Ed’s grandchildren. Entombment will be in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery.Family and friends may call or visit from 4:00 and 7:00 p.m. on Friday and from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Ertl Funeral Home in Watkins. Parish prayers will be at 4:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home followed by Legion Post 453 prayers at 6:30 p.m.

Ed was born on September 1, 1927 at Mahnomen, Minnesota to Peter and Rose (Shriptt) Neisen. He graduated from Mahnomen High School in 1945. Ed served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He then continued his education at the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Ed worked in banking for 64 years and was the proud owner of Farmers State Bank of Watkins for 50 years from 1964 to 2014.

On June 1, 1948, Ed was united in marriage to Cora Santwire in Waubun, Minnesota. They resided in Watkins and Cold Spring prior to moving to Arbor Lakes Senior Living in Maple Grove, Minnesota. Ed and Cora also wintered in Mesa, Arizona from 1982 to 2014.

Ed was a long time member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus; Watkins Legion Post 453; and the Watkins Chamber of Commerce. Ed was a proud member of the AA program and helped run the Watkins Chapter for 40 years. He was also the last survivor of the Cold Spring Last Man’s Club. His hobbies included hunting and fishing; he was also an avid golfer and loved to travel.

He is survived by his wife, Cora of Maple Grove, MN; Children, Robbie (John) Kunz of Lakeland, MN, Kay (Rich) Sykes of Oceanside, CA, Michael Neisen ’71 of Santa Rosa, CA, Dave ’73 (Mary) Neisen of Watkins, Tom (Kate Ost) Neisen of Maple Grove, MN, Pat ’81 (Robin) Neisen of Shorewood, MN; 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; brothers, Urban (Rita) Neisen of St. James, MN, James (Donna) Neisen of Vermillion, MN, Donald (Jean) Neisen of Watkins, MN, Peter (Dorothy) Neisen of Fargo, ND. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
