Jerome “Jerry” Jurek ’58

Jerome J. Jurek (Jerry)-Died on October 23, 2018 at St. Cloud Hospital, St. Cloud, MN. Jerry was born on January 4, 1941 to Frank and Gertrude (Kampa) Jurek in St. Cloud, MN. He attended Cathedral HS in St. Cloud until his junior year, then graduating from St. John’s Preparatory HS in 1958. He continued his studies at St. John’s University In Collegeville, MN, graduating in 1962.

From 1963-1965, Jerry served honorably in the US Army, retiring with the rank of Captain, 1st Battalion, 72nd Armor Division. He was extremely proud of his service to our country, continuing this service for several years as a member of the American Legion Post 500 in Crosslake, MN.

Jerry married Carylynn (McCormick) Jurek on November 4, 1977. Jerry and Lynn have been the cornerstones for each other for nearly 41 years, parents over the years to their golden retrievers, Charlie, Cody, and Quincy.

He spent his entire professional career with State Farm Insurance, Investments Division, retiring in 1998 after 33 years with the company. In addition to his career and family, Jerry loved fishing, hunting (with his dogs) and the outdoors of the Brainerd Lakes Area.

Preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Gertrude; his sister, Phyllis Brunn; and brother, Roland. Survived by his wife, Lynn; sons, Todd (Kristen) Jurek of Houston TX, Tony (Lori) Jurek of Hudson WI, and daughters Lynne Jurek of Houston TX, and Wendy (Barry) Roeber of Cannon Falls, MN. Also survived by brother, Virgil (Gayle) Jurek, and sisters Yvonne (Tom) Lynch, Mary Jo (Robert) Baker, and Sandy (Dale) Anderson. Jerry and Lynn are also grandparents to 10 grandchildren.

A memorial gathering is planned for Monday, October 29, 2018 at 5:00 PM at the American Legion Post #500. The family requests memorials be given to the Crosslake American Legion Post 500, Crosslake, MN 56442. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake, MN.
