In Memoriam ~ Bert Dold ’52

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 30 at the St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Clearwater for Berthold “Bert” Dold, age 81 of Clearwater, who passed away on December 23, 2015. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be at the St. John’s Abbey Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are with the Daniel Funeral Home, Clearwater.

Bert Dold was born on April 21, 1934 in St. Martin to Alois and Veronica (Mondloch) Dold. He graduated from St. John’s Prep School in 1952. Bert married Joan Welle of Meire Grove on May 5, 1956.  After working for his father in the trucking business, he enlisted in the Air Force (1953-1957). After the Air Force he attended St. Cloud State University and graduated in 1960 with a BA degree in Sociology & Psychology. He then worked as a social worker in Stearns County until 1964. From there he went to the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and graduated with a Master’s Degree in Social Work in 1966. He worked briefly at Anoka County Social Services Dept. after graduate school and then was hired by the State Dept. of Human Services in January, 1968. He worked there in a variety of positions. The last 20 years he was an Appeals Referee with the Dept. He retired in 1997 and moved from Eagan to Clearwater.

Bert was a member of the Clearwater American Legion #323, the Eagles Club Aerie #622 of St. Cloud and the MN Retired State Employees Assn.

Bert is survived by his wife, Joan of Clearwater; children  Bill (Vickie) of Blaine, Mike (Jackie) of St. Michael, John (Vicki) of St. Michael and Roberta (Tim) Cole of Eagan; 8 grandchildren; brother Richard (Jan) of West Plains, MO; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Dold of Vass, NC.

He is preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Pamela and brother Clem.

Memorials are preferred to St. John’s PREP School.
