In Memoriam ~ David A. Lieberman, Father of Max Lieberman ’07

Lieberman, David A., 3/15/1954 – 6/6/2016, 62 of Koshkonong, Missouri, died on Monday, June 6, 2016, at Cox South Hospital, Springfield, Missouri. His untimely death was due to complications arising from acute pancreatitis.

David was born in Lima, Ohio, on March 15, 1954, to Harold (Hal) and Mary Naomi Cogswell Button Lieberman. The family moved to St. Cloud in 1956. David attended the Campus Laboratory School of St. Cloud State University and St. Cloud Technical High School, before completing his Bachelor of Arts degree at St. Cloud State. He then earned a B.H.S. at the University of Wisconsin – Madison and his Physician Assistant degree at Duke University, Durham, North Carolina. Over the years, his practice took him and his family to Alaska, Maine, Washington, Minnesota, and several Midwestern Indian reservations. While working full-time for an HMO in Olympia, WA, he earned a law degree from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA.

On January 2, 1981, in Durham, NC, David married Tracey Gibons, (born January 22, 1953, in Eugene, Oregon), daughter of Donald Gibons and Betty Hensen of Eugene. They had two children, Maura Devon and Max David. Other survivors include his father; two sisters, Kim of St. Paul, MN, and Mardi of Orlando, FL; and a brother, Brock of St. Cloud. Preceding him in death was his mother Mary and his brother Ross.

David was a creative and multi-talented individual. He was an early artist and later blew glass and made knives. He played the guitar and loved music. He wrote well, including, at times, excellent poetry. He was a versatile and quite accomplished cook. He even ran a marathon – twice! And he was an exceptional horseman. His colleagues and patients showed high regard for him. He will be dearly missed by all of those he loved.

A commemoration of David’s life is being planned; feel free to contact Kim for details or to request a notification: Kim Lieberman, kim.lieberman@gmail.com
