Saint John’s Prep School offers a dynamic Middle School program designed for 7th and 8th-grade students seeking a challenging and enriching experience.
The 7th and 8th grade program at Saint John’s Prep is unique in many ways. Our classes are combined 7th and 8th graders and are taught with an interdisciplinary approach. Our project-based curriculum is unified across subjects and focused on experiential activities based on the region of the world being studied. For example, when students learn about the European Renaissance in social studies, they study Shakespeare in language arts, attend a Renaissance fair, create artwork with techniques from the 16th century and cook foods based on the era.
Our small class sizes ensure that every student gets personal attention from teachers. Students in middle school take world languages and choose from Chinese, German and Spanish. Every middle school student is enrolled in either band, choir and orchestra- individual instrument lessons are included in tuition. While many students take grade-level math courses, students are given the freedom to progress with advanced math class opportunities. Field trips and elective classes allow students to study special interests, from canoeing and fishing to coding and building robots. The possibilities are endless at Saint John’s Prep!
Our classrooms are beyond just four walls. Our learning spaces extend beyound our building and into the 2,600 acres of lakes, prairies and forests of the Saint John’s Abbey Arboretum. We’re also nestled alongside Saint John’s University, so trips to the Hill Museum and Manuscript Library, Saint John’s Solar Farm and other campus learning spaces are not uncommon.
Within the our school building, middle school students have their own spaces to learn and connect, including their own commons area. Middle School students are brought together with Upper School students for guest speakers, special events, prayer services and our all school mass.
