With heartfelt appreciation, we gratefully acknowledge your generosity to support our students.

Thank you.

As I write this message, I do so with a profound sense of gratitude. Every year since I arrived at Prep in the summer of 2015, I have written a message as part of this annual report to thank the many benefactors who make a Prep School education both financially accessible and academically remarkable. But this year it’s different. It’s very personal. When I joined the Prep community, my oldest child was just 10 years old. A senior today, she will join her Prep School classmates in the Abbey Church on May 26th to celebrate their Baccalaureate Mass and Commencement exercises! She will officially transition from student to alumna, which makes me very proud. She is prepared to take the next steps forward on her life’s journey. I am beyond grateful for all of you who believe enough in the mission of Saint John’s Prep and choose to offer your financial support along with your gifts of time and talent to make this exceptional educational experience possible for all our students. Your generosity has had a profound impact on my daughter’s life. I know I speak for the parents of the Class of 2023 and all our parents when I say – Thank you!

Our students’ experience would not be possible without those who are recognized in this Annual Report. Generations of alumni, parents, grandparents, faculty, staff, and friends of Saint John’s Prep have faithfully supported students for more than 165 years. Gifts to Prep impact every student and every part of a student’s experience at Prep. Attracting and retaining highly qualified and talented faculty and staff would not be possible without your support. Your generosity ensures Prep can award critical financial assistance to deserving students for whom Prep education may not otherwise be possible. Whether it’s Soccer or Basketball, Robotics or Mock Trial, Theatre or Knowledge Bowl, your gifts allow us the ability to offer a wide range of co-curricular activities so our students can showcase their many talents. It is one of the things that make Prep so special. Students are allowed to be themselves while discovering and sharing their talents in a wonderfully supportive community.

This Annual Report provides an overview of audited financials for fiscal year 2022 (FY22), highlighting revenues and expenses from July 1, 2021-June 30, 2022. Overall, FY22 was a successful year for Saint John’s Prep. However, FY22 also presented its challenges as well. We continued to navigate the pandemic, which certainly had its impact on Prep. Upon close review of revenue and expense information published in this report, one will note expenses exceeded revenue in FY22. Revenue shortfall in FY22 can be almost exclusively attributed to the pandemic. Primarily, fewer domestic and international students enrolled in our residential boarding program. What we anticipated would be a quick recovery in our boarding program as we entered year two of the pandemic proved to be slower than expected. Despite this revenue shortfall, Saint John’s Prep finished the fiscal year with a balanced budget due to a strong cash position carried forward from FY21 in the amount of nearly $585,000. Due to the hard work of school staff and our Board of Regents, Saint John’s Prep was able to successfully come out on the other side of the pandemic financially sound.

As you review this remarkable list of benefactors, please know that every individual, corporation, and foundation is to be celebrated. Together this group of benefactors continues to provide critical support to advance the mission of Saint John’s Prep and in doing so, they assist us in our ability to prepare students to succeed in college, but perhaps more importantly, we can prepare students to become the next generation of value-driven leaders.

On May 26 when my daughter receives her diploma, I will once again be reminded of each of you who made her education a reality by supporting Saint John’s Prep. You should be proud knowing that your generosity transforms the lives of young people every day.E082422 Prep People 0042
