Abbot Anthony (Alexius) Edelbrock 1861 was one of the first five students to enroll at Prep in 1857; joined the monastery and later became its second Abbot.

Fr. Oliver Kapsner, OSB 1920 the brains, genius and energy behind the Saint John’s University Hill Monastic Manuscript Library which impacts and serves the entire world.

Senator Eugene McCarthy ’32 served as U.S. Senator from Minnesota; distinguished statesman, author, poet, diplomat, three-time candidate for U.S. President.

Governor George Sinner ’46 is a former governor of North Dakota and Vice President of American Crystal Sugar.

Senator David Durenberger ’51 served as a United States Senator for Minnesota for many years.

K.C. Marrin ’67 is a pipe organ builder, a master craftsman and a past member of the SJP Board of Regents.

Brian Thuringer ’68 with wife, Deborah, owns and operates Madden’s Resort in Brainerd, Minn., home of “The Classic” the top public course in Minnesota.

Ann Marie Stock, PhD ’78 is a professor at the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, VA.

Sossina Haile, PhD ’83 was named by Newsweek among twelve prominent individuals to watch in 2008. Professor of Materials Science and of Chemical Engineering at Cal Tech.

Gen. Erik Kurilla ’84 retired from the United States military in 2025 after nearly 40 years of service. Gen. Kurilla served tours of duty in Afghanistan, Iraq, Panama, Bosnia, Haiti, Kosovo, and Saudi Arabia and retired as the commander of US Central Command.
