In Memoriam ~ Robert “Bob” Thimmesh ’55

Robert Francis Thimmesh ’55

November 09, 1937 – April 19, 2021

Robert Francis Thimmesh died late in the evening of April 19, 2021. He was 83 years old. He died at home, as he would have wished, if he had given it a thought, which he did not. He was focused on living right to the end.

Bob’s life was shaped by his faith, family, friends, and work. He pursued a number of careers, including employment with the State of Minnesota, real estate management and investment, co-owning an art gallery, and creative writing — particularly poetry. His interests were wide and deep, including art, poetry, science, music, theology, philosophy, basketball, handball, and tennis. His favorite food was his wife’s lemon meringue pie. His least favorite was a green salad. He will be fondly remembered as a man who swam against the current and marched to the beat of his own drummer.

Bob is survived by his wife of 57 years, Doris; children Elizabeth (Matt), Catherine, and Joseph (Martha); grandchildren Jaimie (Ryan), Simon (Ellie), Noah, Isaac, Theodore, Andy, Sam, and Ellie; great-grandson Jude; sister Mary Jean; and sisters-in-law Patti and Liz; and many nieces and nephews. He also will be missed by his decades-long friends from St. John’s Prep, Xerxes Avenue, and St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church and by so many others.

A funeral service will be held at St. Olaf Catholic Church in downtown Minneapolis on Saturday, May 1 at 2:00 p.m. The service will be live-streamed on the church’s website: https://www.youtube.com/user/SaintOlafChurch/live.

Due to Covid, there will not be a visitation or a reception. Memorials preferred to a charity of the donor’s choice.
