In Memoriam ~ James Unger ’46

James R. Unger ‘46 — 1927 to 2016:  Beloved Father, Grandfather Age 88, born June 15, 1927 Jim died June 4, 2016 surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness. Jim was a proud graduate of St. John’s Prep, served in the Navy in WWII, and went on to work as a plumber for St. Paul Parks and Rec for 35 years. Above all he was a faith-filled man. He valued education for himself and his children. He was a dedicated volunteer: Hospice (20 years), Coach, Befriender, ESL Tutor, Dorothy Day, Lyngblomsten, Habitat for Humanity. Preceded in death by his brother Bill and the love of his life Carol.

Survived by his 7 children, Nancy (Louie) Grams, James G. Unger and Becky Unger, Debra (Charlie) Fastner, Teri (Paul) Demore, Mary Jule (Steve) Erickson, Dennis (Sue), Christopher (Kelly); 19 grandchildren, Jonathan, Matthew, Andy (Ruthie), Elizabeth and Mary Grams, Kelly (Adam Wood) Unger, Emily (Chad) Elston, Paul (Sha) Unger, Elizabeth (Bryan) Pershing, Noelle (Rian) Heaslip, Phillip and Anna DeMore, Jaclyn (Joe) Davern, Brent (Kristine) Erickson, Joe and Ali Unger, James, Theodore and Sean Unger; 15 great grandchildren; Lauryn, Benjamin and Ava Grams, Elliott Unger-Wood, Brock, Molly and Evan Elston, Owen, Amelia, and Aurora Pershing, Miles Heaslip, Juliette and Dylan Davern, Jack and Benjamin James Erickson; sister, Mary (Richard) Hoffman; sisters in law, Joanne (Dodie) Lytle and Charlotte (Shocky) Isaacs; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, 9:30AM at CHURCH OF ST. CECILIA, 2357 Bayless Place, St. Paul. Visitation Friday, 4-7PM at BRADSHAW 4600 Greenhaven Drive at Hwy 96 (One mile West of 35E), White Bear, as well as one hour prior to Mass at the church. Private family burial.
