Esports Summer Camp @ Saint John's Prep

ESPORTS SUMMER CAMP
League of Legends Esports Session
Dates: July 8 – 11, 2024
Time: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
Cost: $300

Join our  Saint John’s Prep League of Legends team to learn how to improve your skills individually and work with a team! Learn to boost your overall game sense and ability as a player. Teamwork is an essential component of each game, and campers will learn how to become effective teammates and leaders. In addition, teamwork can sometimes determine a win or a loss in Esports.

Esports campers learn through hands-on exercises from our head coach, Mr. Miller, and his team of skilled assistant coaches. Over the session, students will work on the game’s basic mechanics and learn from Esports experts. Players must be 13 by July 8, 2024, or have parental permission. These sessions are geared toward two levels of experience : 1) brand new – intermediate and 2) Greatly Experienced.

All participants will receive a t-shirt, daily snacks, beverage, and lunch each day, usually at the Refectory.

Young Explorers Day Camp Series: Session Two @ Saint John's Prep

Young Explorers Day Camp Series
Dates: July 10, 17, and 24
Time: 8:00 am – 12:00 pm
Cost: $50 per date or $120 for all 3

Students entering grades 5-8 will have fun making new friends, getting plenty of fresh air and experiencing the beautiful 2,900 acre campus of Saint John’s Prep and Saint John’s University. Participants will enjoy adventure and age-appropriate discovery activities, guided by academic themes of arts, sciences, and cultural exploration. Each date is filled with fun group activities that exercise the body, challenge the mind and nurture the spirit of our youth.

Focus on Sciences:

Kids will get their hands dirty while participating in an outdoor education program to improve their environmental literacy and emotional connectedness to the natural world. They will learn how to sweep net for insects in the prairie and do some pond dipping for aquatic invertebrates in Lake Sagatagan.

Focus on the Arts:
This session will consist of an introduction to theatre as we spend the morning making new friends, engaging in storytelling activities, and working together to develop and perform original mini-plays. We will then venture “behind the scenes” with a backstage tour of Saint John’s theatre spaces. All skill levels welcome! The second block will bring us into the woods for an introduction to orienteering and hiking through the trails of Saint John’s University.

The first block will be an introduction to cultures around the world, and students will participate in cultural activities! Following this session, students will head over to the kitchen where they will learn basic cooking skills and prepare lunch together. Lunch will also include a traditional food item.

Saint John’s Prep Theatre Department is proud to present “The Last Five Years” this August 16-18 at the Gnarly Bard Theater in downtown St. Cloud.

The August 16 performance is SOLD OUT. Limited seats remain for the August 17 performance. There are lots of seats available for the August 18 matinee.

This show is “An emotionally powerful and intimate musical about two New Yorkers in their twenties who fall in and out of love over the course of five years, the show’s unconventional structure consists of Cathy, the woman, telling her story backwards while Jamie, the man, tells his story chronologically.”

 

As a part of the new A2E curriculum, students interested in a Performing Arts Distinction are allowed to work on a “Capstone Project.” Elizabeth St. Hilaire ’25 and Isaac Miller ’26 pitched this project to SJP Theatre Director Brandon Anderson and have been actively working on it throughout the summer! Other production staff include Will St. Hilaire ’23 and Dr. Carolyn Finley.

 

Showtimes are 7:00 p.m. on August 16 & 17 and 2:00 p.m. on August 18.

We are thrilled to welcome our students, faculty and staff back to campus in August! The first day of school for Saint John’s Prep is August 21, 2024.

We’re currently enrolling students for the upcoming academic year, and our Admission staff are available to connect with you via phone or Zoom to answer questions and offer you a tour of our Middle School, Upper School, residence halls, and our gorgeous campus. If a member of your family is interested in joining the Saint John’s Prep community, contact our admission team.

The  academic year will begin with an opening convocation at the Saint John’s Abbey Church at 8:30am.  Abbot Doug Mullin, along with Head of School Jon Mc Gee, and the entire Saint John’s Prep faculty, staff and student community will be in attendance for the ceremony. Principal Dr. Christine Glomski and Student Council President Alayna Neal ’25 will be among the speakers at this inspirational launch to the new semester.

Parents, siblings, grandparents, and alumni are welcome to attend this very special event.

Saint John’s Prep is hosting two dinner theater productions of this exciting show! At 6:00pm on October 25 and November 1 theatre goers will have the opportunity to enjoy a gourmet meal before the show catered by Jules Bistro. Guests will be able to interact with the actors and see the stage before the show. Tickets for the dinners are no longer for sale.

Show Summary
On All Hallow’s Eve of 1995, a dinner party is held at the Upstate New York manor of Dr. Julian Fox: the enigmatic millionaire and owner of the Sunrise Sentinel, known for its dedication to exposing corruption amidst the high ranking members of government. By the end of the night, the media mogul would be dead, and not a soul alive can tell what really happened. Now, it’s up to Detective Inspector Ethel Carter and her dedicated team of officers to sort out the truth locked within the twisting halls of memory. The catch? All of the suspects are firmly convinced that they themselves are to blame. Join us for an evening of mystery, comedy, and unreliable narrators in this subverted take on the classic Whodunnit genre.
