Join us at the SJP/SCSU Chinese Immersion STEAM Summer Camp!

We are excited to announce a summer camp designed for inquiring, open-minded makers and creators who also are on a path in Chinese immersion.  We have pulled out all the stops to create a one-of-a-kind, eco-minded summer camp that combines a STEAM-focused series of design challenges and the richness of Chinese culture and language! Campers may choose 1 week from these two options: Week 1 July 18-22, or Week 2 – July 25-29, 2022.

We are hoping to create a Chinese immersion environment, so our camp is open to rising 5th-8th grade students who are either currently enrolled in a Chinese immersion program, have graduated from an elementary school Chinese immersion program, or have completed at least 3 years of Chinese as a foreign language.

  • Morning language sessions: We will provide fun, engaging language labs that will target vocabulary used in the design challenges for that day.
  • Maker labs: Campers will create hydraulic and robotic machines and more!
  • Chinese Culture Arts: Campers will celebrate the richness of cultural and artistic diversity in China, trying their hand at art forms such as 蜡染 – Miao (Chinese Hmong) Batik, and Shaanxi 农民画 (Hu County Farmer Painting)
  • Chinese camp collaborative conservation project: Campers will be able to connect directly with peers in China to compare results, reflect on their findings, and establish an action plan for continued collaboration.
  • Minnesota Summer Camp Downtime: Campers will be able to alternate activities listed above with enjoyable Minnesota summer pastimes.
  • An inclusive, fun, and nurturing camp environment: Our camp is hosted by educators passionate about immersion education and who celebrate all peoples of the world.

"Great place for students to develop themselves and prepare for college and beyond. Each student is treated as an individual, instead of a number like other larger schools. The faculty and staff are well trained and prepared for their positions, and the extracurricular programs let students explore their interests in a friendly environment."
