In Memoriam ~ Elmer Schwankl, SJP Faculty 1965-1972

Elmer Schwankl

SJP faculty 1965 – 1972

Elmer D. Schwankl, age 82 of Lakeville, passed away February 5, 2022. Elmer was loved and respected by all who knew him. In his 40 years of teaching, coaching (many different sports), and driver’s education his students will remember his kindness, patience, and fairness. Many times he was recognized as the “Apple Polisher” which was a student-nominated award for their favorite teacher.

Elmer was a patriot with a lengthy military career including 2.5 years active duty and 18 years of reserve service. He retired a Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army. Reading about military strategy and history became one of his passions. He definitely could be considered a Civil War buff having traveled yearly to battlefields and sites of historic importance.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carol; three children: Margie (who passed away last July), Mark, and Karen. He was a loving father to his children and also enjoyed his two grandchildren, Brandon and Zoe.

A Celebration of Life, Memorial Service will be held at White Funeral Home, 20134 Kenwood Tr., Lakeville, Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at 11 AM. A Memorial visitation will take place from 5-8 PM Tuesday at White Funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
