In Memoriam ~ Joseph C. Machtemes, ’54 Posted on December 30, 2024 in Alumni News, Obituaries Joseph C. Machtemes ’54 Joseph C. Machtemes, age 88, of Faribault, entered into heaven on December 26, 2024, at Hastings Senior Health and Living in Hastings, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Drive, Faribault. Visitation will be held at the church for an hour and a half before the service. The interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Faribault. Arrangements are with the Boldt Funeral Home in Faribault. Joe, son of John and Harriet (Meuer) Machtemes, was born on September 28,1936 in LeCenter, MN and spent his childhood in Waconia, MN. He attended Saint John’s Preparatory School and then earned a degree in business from Saint John’s University in Collegeville, MN. Joe married Kathleen (Kay) Koerner on October 3, 1959 in St. Cloud, MN and she preceded him in death on March 15, 2001. They moved to Faribault when Joe transferred to a position with State Farm Insurance Company as a Claims Representative. He was with the company for 32 years before retiring. Joe and Kay loved to take road trips and especially enjoyed visiting Walt Disney World in Florida. They also loved spending time at their cabin on Cedar Lake in Faribault where they cruised around on the pontoon and shared fun experiences with family and friends. Joe enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and grandsons into his early 80’s. Other interests included golfing, camping and coin collecting. Joe loved to watch his grandchildren and great grandchildren in all their activities and traveled to many games to cheer them on. As you know, Joe was always very busy. Joe is survived by his three children Mary (Scott) Parker, Anne (Scott) Hafemeyer and Michael Machtemes (Martha Adams); 11 grandchildren Brianne (Brent) Peroutka, Jon (Megan) Parker, Chad Parker, Brandon (Amy) Parker, Emily (Chris) Beard, Patrick (Amanda) Hayden, Meghan Hayden (fiancé Colton Motschenbacher), Brogan Hayden, Kristin (Aaron) Lais, JD (Nikki) Machtemes, and Nathan Machtemes; 12 great grandchildren Logan, Emma and Reese Peroutka, Adah, Weston and Rhett Parker, Drew Parker, Blakely and Maren Lais, Boden Machtemes, Declan Beard and Theodore Hayden; sister, Sister Ann Machtemes, OSB; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Kay Machtemes; great granddaughter, Leighton Kay Lais; brother, John Machtemes; sisters, Sister Mary Ellen Machtemes, OSB, and Margaret Mae Hoben; and parents. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to: Divine Mercy Catholic School, St. John’s University, Grace Hospice, or Donor’s Choice.
