In Memoriam ~ Leon Schefers ’65

Leon H. Schefers ’65 passed away at the age of 77 on March 15, 2025 as a result of an automobile accident.

He was born Nov. 30, 1947 in St. Cloud to Norbert and Cecilia (Maus) Schefers.
He married Elizabeth (Betsy) Liedl April 8, 1989 in Wolverton, MN.

He attended St. John’s Prep and High School and forever loved going back to St. John’s. He graduated from St. Mary’s University with a masters in International Business and worked with Stewart Title in Bloomington. He taught as adjunct professor at St. Mary’s in Minneapolis.

Schefers owned Clay County Abstract in Moorhead and moved to Ironton in 2013.

He worked as an election judge in Wisconsin and as a guardian in Wisconsin and Minnesota. He completed the Master Naturalist course and volunteered at the Soil and Water department. He worked as an AIS inspector for Crow Wing County. He was proud of organizing blood drives for the Red Cross at the Northland Arboretum in Brainerd. He was a hospice volunteer and worked as a concierge at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center at the time of his death.He was a member of the October pasty team at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Crosby and assisted with meat cutting baking of the pasties. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Norbert and Donald.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Liedl, Ironton and a son, Oscar Schefers, St. Paul, and sisters Karen (Art) Benson, Danbury Wi, and Dorothy (Brad) Herberg, Champlin Mn. 

Services will be held Saturday, April 26 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Heartwood Senior Living Community in Crosby.
