Easter Greetings 2022 Posted on April 19, 2022 in Faculty News, From the Head of School, From the Head of School A Season of Renewal Good Friday and Easter free us to think about other things far beyond our own personal fate, about the ultimate meaning of all life, suffering, and events; and we lay hold of a great hopeDietrich Bonhoeffer It is high time for us to arise from sleep. Let us open our eyes to the light that comes from God, and our ears to the voice from heavenRule of Benedict We often and rightly describe Easter in terms of the hope and joy it fulfills and represents. But its most powerful message lies in its context, the great light that arose from great darkness marked by the Triduum. That surely is why the Greek and Latin word, Pascha, which reflects the messages of both Passover and the Resurrection, was used by the very early church (and still today in the Orthodox church) to commemorate and celebrate Easter. We are physically reminded of Easter each year in the form of the longer daylight hours that mark the season – our exodus from darkness to light. As we celebrate the seasonal newness of spring and its palpable sense of new life and all its possibility, Easter reminds us of our need for renewal, of our lives, our relationships, and our world. Pope Francis offers us a particularly powerful message: The Lord awakens so as to reawaken and revive our Easter faith. Let us not quench the wavering flame that never falters, and let us allow hope to be rekindled. [We must] find the courage to create spaces where everyone can recognize that they are called, and to allow new forms of hospitality, fraternity, and solidarity. In this season of renewal and new life and light, grace and astonishing love, I wish our entire Prep community the blessings and hope of Easter! Jon McGeeHead of School
