Maxine Ann Wurtz ’83   

Maxine Ann Wurtz, age 55, of Hutchinson, Minnesota, passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2020, at her home in Hutchinson. A Memorial Service will be held in Hutchinson at a later date.

Maxine was born on July 3, 1964 in Miami, FL to Samuel and Kim Laurence. She attended St. John’s Preparatory High School in Collegeville, MN, graduating in 1983. She then joined the US Navy where she served more than 5 years, working primarily as a computer programmer. She married James Davis and gave birth to her daughter, Julia Ann Davis in 1990. She was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1992. Maxine married William Wurtz III and gave birth to her son, William Max Wurtz in 1994.

After raising her children, Maxine attended St. Cloud State University in St Cloud, MN where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree. She later attended Concord Law, where she was recognized on the Dean’s List, as a Distinguished Scholar, and for maintaining the highest GPA of her class. She was President of the Student Body Association, and created an intensive study group model that is still used today. She graduated with highest honors in 2013, earning a Juris Doctor Degree. Maxine lived many places but eventually made her home in Hutchinson, MN.

Maxine was known for her quick wit, and she will be remembered for her compassionate spirit. She was loyal, kind and generous. She was tenacious, intelligent and determined. She enjoyed cooking, school, and music. She was a musician herself, and played the piano and flute.

Maxine is preceded in death by her father Samuel Laurence; brother Dick Laurence; and sister Dea Laurence.

Maxine is survived by her fiance, Brett Schewe; daughter, Julia Davis of Missouri; son, William Wurtz (Liam) of Hanska, MN; her mother Kim Laurence; and siblings David Laurence, Leslie Laurence, Kim Laurence, and Dahner Laurence; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
