In Memoriam ~ Robert William Doyle ’52

Robert William Doyle ’52

See note below from W. Jerry Streeter ’52

With a heavy heart I am sad to report the loss of a close (even from afar) and friendly classmate, Robert William Doyle. Bob died on August 2, 2019 in Beijing, China. Bob was born on September 29, 1934. He was a member of our class in our freshmen and sophomore year. Though he was with us for only two years, he stayed very close with class members and us with him.

In his letters sent back to classmates, his comments were always informative and were looked forward to. He must have spent at least 25-35 years living in China.

Bob graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in mechanical engineering. He then went on to get a law degree from William Mitchell Law College. Bob developed a patent law business clientele in Minnesota that frequently required him to make trips to China. So much so that (after a failed marriage) he moved his residence to Beijing. Soon he was traveling to many parts of Asia on business.

While there, Bob met and married a Chinese woman and immediately became a family man with an “almost-teen” step-daughter. He also started his own business “Import Your Ideas”, Robert Doyle LLC.

Bob’s spirit and missives will be missed by us, in the Class of 1952. We enjoyed our time spent with him and he responded by staying close to his classmates. May he rest in peace.
