In Memoriam ~ Sidney McGee

Sidney McGee
Father of Jon McGee, Head of School, Grandfather of Andrew ’15, Nick ’18, Ben ’19, Kate ’23

Sidney W. McGee, born and raised in upstate NY, died peacefully on March 14th, surrounded by his loving family after living life to its fullest over his 89 years. A devout Catholic, his life will be celebrated at Lumen Christi Catholic Church in Saint Paul.   After marrying his wife, Theresa DelMonico (Terri McGee), they had 2 sons in Schenectady, NY and headed northwest from there to the long winters of Minnesota. Two more sons rounded out the family, where together Sid and Terri raised their sweet, loving, and always obedient boys in North Mankato.

Sid began his working career with Syracuse China, driving and flying to and from to peddle fine china, gifts, and various other decorative pieces to the places that sold them. Having come across a furniture store with a fine gifts shop in Mankato, Sid joined Landkamer’s Furniture as a salesman and interior decorator. After many years, he and Terri opened a petite women’s clothing store at the local mall. He worked tirelessly with youth at Holy Rosary Catholic Church and with the Teens Encounter Christ (TEC) program in the New Ulm diocese. His work in campus ministry at Loyola High School, the youth mission trips he led to North Dakota, and the many European vacations he took with Terri were highlights of his later years.   The couple moved to Saint Paul in 2017 to be closer to family.

The love of his life preceded him in death in 2019. Family was his most important treasure. Sid is survived by his sons Jon (Ann), Tim (Ann), Greg (Annie) and Brian (Andrea), their 11 grandchildren, Kaitlin (Luke), Andrew, Grace, Nick, Louie, Mae, Donovan, Ben, Jude, Carmella, and Kate, and great-granddaughter, Willow.   Family–or famiglia as he was known to exclaim–was his most important treasure. He will be missed but with the confidence of his faith, hope, and love, will be fondly remembered.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at Lumen Christi Catholic Church in St. Paul on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at 10 a.m. with visitation one hour before. Memorials may be made to the School Sisters of Notre Dame.
