In Memoriam – Mary Jacquelyn “Jackie” Strangis, Mother of Joel Strangis ’66

Mary Jacquelyn “Jackie” Strangis, age 88 of New Brighton, passed away on July 6, 2015. Jackie struggled with Alzheimer’s disease. Her family is grateful that even in her last weeks, with a little help, she could recognize friends and family and share her love. Jackie was born August 7, 1926 in Hettinger, ND the daughter of Alfred and Rubelle Dalby. As their first baby to survive, Jackie was received with special love. Alfred, Jr. “Buddy”, was born two years later. As district manager for John Deere, Alfred traveled through the Dakotas helping farmers and dealers survive the Depression. Moving from town to town, the family grew especially close. After high school graduation Jackie moved to Minneapolis where she met and married Joseph Strangis in 1946. From 1983 to 2003 Jackie shared her love with the clients of WorkAbilities, a day training program for adults with developmental disabilities. Celebrating her 80th birthday at WorkAbilities in 2006, Jackie was greeted by her former clients with cheers, tears and outstretched arms. Survived by her children: Joel (Diane), Jay (Katherine), Mary Beth Glassman (Sheldon), Teri Lynne Nelson (Paul Brenden) and Michelle (Steven Pincus), six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Joe. Jackie will be remembered for her dedication to her family and for her love of all those around her.
