Important Back to School Dates and Details Posted on July 25, 2017 in Activities, Alumni News, Faculty News, Press Releases Summer Update with Important Dates and Details Saint John’s Prep is buzzing with activity as our staff prepares to welcome students and faculty back to campus in less than a month! Below is a list of important dates and details to help you plan for the start of school. Our Back-to-School Picnic is on Monday, August 21 at 5:30 p.m. This is the time to tour campus and enjoy a meal with other Prep families. You can walk the halls and check out classrooms to help your student learn their way around. Teachers will also be on campus to say hello! Please let us know how many family members will be joining us for this casual, outdoor dinner by following this link. Siblings are welcome! New this year! Before the picnic, Upper School families will be able to meet teachers during a short academic fair on Monday, August 21 from 4:45-5:30 p.m. Middle School Orientation is Monday, August 21 at 4:30 p.m. All new and returning Middle School (Grades 6-7-8) students should plan to attend the Middle School Orientation on Monday, August 21 at 4:30 p.m. in the Middle School Commons Area on the third floor. Upper School Orientation is Monday, August 21 at 8:00 a.m. All 9th grade students who are entering our Upper School are required to attend the orientation activities on Monday, August 21. This is a great opportunity to catch up with old friends and get acquainted with some new ones while familiarizing yourself with your new learning environment. All new 10th -12th grade students will also need to report to campus at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, August 21. This day is very important for our new students. You will make new friends, meet your teachers, and get ready for your first day of classes! The first day of school is Wednesday, August 23. We will start the year promptly at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 23. A special schedule will be created to help students become well oriented with their new classes and teachers. Convocation is Thursday, August 24. We begin each school year with a formal, academic convocation in the Abbey Church. The start time for this important morning ceremony will be announced as we get closer to the date. All parents and families are welcome to attend! Please ask your student to dress nicely for this special event. School Picture Day is Thursday, August 24. Since our students, faculty and staff will be dressed nicely for convocation on Aug. 24, we will take school pictures that day. These are photos that will be used in the yearbook. Families will be able to purchase the photos. Athletics There are currently captain’s practices scheduled for fall sports. If you’d like more information about athletics at Saint John’s Prep, please contact Athletics and Activities Director Bryan Backes. Fall sport practices begin for varsity/junior varsity teams on August 14. Fall sports include boys’ and girls’ soccer, boys’ and girls’ cross country, girls’ tennis, girls’ swimming. Middle school teams (grades 6-8) will start practice after school on August 23. Make sure you have your MHSL physical form filled out before August 14! Transportation The bus companies are in the process of building routes. They will reach out to families in August to help determine usage and routes. This year’s routes will probably be similiar to schedules used in previous years. Click here to see the 2016-17 bus routes. We will be closed all Fridays between June 23-August 4, 2017. Julie Lund, our new administrative assistant for the principal, is available in the main office to help you!
