Goossens ’69 passed away Saturday, January 4, 2025 in St. Petersburg, Florida at the age of 73.James (Jim) was in the 3rd of 4 generations of a multigenerational family legacy of affiliation with St. John’s Abbey, St. John’s Preparatory School, St. John’s University, and The College of St. Benedict, beginning with his grandfather, Charles N. Berres, who attended SJU in 1920 – 1921.Jim was father to James David Goossens (SJU ’02); nephew of Rev. Peregrin (Jerome) Berres, OSB (SJU ’53), Paul (formerly Rev. Blaise, OSB) Berres (SJU ’59), and Caroline Berres, OSC (CSB ’87); brother of Patricia (CSB ’76), Edward (SJP ’74, SJU ’78), Michael (SJP ’75), Paul (SJP ’79, SJU ’83), Clare (CSB ’84), Robert (SJU ’86), and Elizabeth (CSB ’87); and uncle to Peter Wylie (SJU ’98), Suzanne Goossens (CSB ’07), Hannah Goossens (CSB ’12) and Luke Goossens (SJU).May Jim’s soul rest in peace, and may his memory continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.To plant trees in his memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.Click here to view Jim’s full obituary.
