Her ancestors emigrated from Counties Mayo and Sligo in Ireland and from Croatia before immigrating to Green Isle, MN and Eagle River, WI, respectively, two places with which she was immensely proud to be associated. She attended Bloomington Lincoln High School and the College of Saint Benedict, graduating in 1981 with a bachelor’s degree in English and German. At Saint Ben’s, Mary particularly enjoyed the semester abroad she spent in Germany. After graduation, she taught English at the Saint John’s Prep School from 1981 – 1984.

Mary married Michael Bauer, also of Bloomington, in 1983, and they raised their four children in Minneapolis. Above all, Mary loved her Catholic Faith and her family. She was an active member of both Annunciation, where she sang in the Women’s Schola, and Our Lady of Peace parishes in Minneapolis.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Mary Catherine and Donald, and her youngest sister Molly.
