In Memoriam ~ Robert Wind ’49

Robert Wind ’49

Bob died peacefully on January 13, 2021, surrounded by family at the age of 89, due to complications of COVID. He was born October 8, 1931. He was the 10th of 11 children, born to John and Anna Wind atop their hardware store in St Paul, on Front Street. The store evolved into the Wind Sheet Metal Business in which he initially worked, then finished his career as a union sheet metal worker.

Bob attended boarding school at St. John’s Prep in Collegeville, MN. where he developed lifelong relationships (1949’ers), and was forever proud to be a Johnnie, and a notable player of the football team.

He served in the Army during the Korean War from 1952-1954. When he returned, he married Dolores Pesek. They raised their six kids on the Eastside of St Paul. He was an active member of St Pascal’s Parish where he centered his life on faith. He was happiest when serving, and making people happy. He volunteered many selfless hours at St. Pascal’s Men’s Club, Catholic Charities, and was a Eucharist minister at Bethesda, the Pillars Hospice, and the Marion Center, along with many others. He brought humor and life to any situation.

Survived by his six children: Mike, Terri (Bob) McLean, Steve (Joy), Rick (Karen), Gerry (Joan) and Angie (Tim) Capistrant; his 11 grandchildren: Andrew (Annette), Dan, Mike, Rick, Kaley, James, Casey, Luke, Megan, Hannah, and Sam; three great grandchildren: Emmett, Fiona, and Enid; his two sisters, Loretta O’Keefe (Jerry*) and Dolores Picha (Clair*); and many nieces, nephews and special friends.

Preceded in death by his wife, Dolores H. Wind (Pesek); parents, John and Anna Wind; six brothers, John (Bernice), Fr. Herman OSB (SJP ‘36), Albert (Agnes), Carl (Dolores), Joe (Lorraine), Ben; two sisters, Helena and Betty Smisek (Al); sister-in-law Diane Welvang (Pete); brother-in-law Dennis Pesek (Terry).

Bob and his family are so grateful to all of his doctors, nurses and caregivers over these past years. A special thanks to all at Cerenity Marian Center for the love and compassionate care where he lived his final two years.

A private funeral and interment Tuesday, 1/19/2021 at St Pascal Baylon Church, St Paul, and burial at Calvary Cemetery. The mass may be viewed on St. Pascal Baylon Church.
