In Memoriam ~ William Ahern ’49

WILLIAM AHERN ’49

William (Bill) Ahern, beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, May 8, 2021.

Bill was born in Taunton, Minnesota on April 4, 1931 and was the youngest of ten children. After receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, Bill married Patricia Lyons in August of 1956. In 1967, Bill and Pat moved to Chico, California, where they raised their eight children and lived the remainder of their very happy lives. Bill was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus and very much a people person. In Bill’s working life, his passion for people and outstanding communication skills excelled him to success within all his jobs. He loved his family and friends and was the best companion anyone could have. Bill was a very dedicated husband and father. His greatest treasures were his eleven grandchildren and one great-grandson, with whom he loved spending time.

Bill’s wife, Patricia, and son Dennis, preceded him in death. Bill is survived by a sister, Valmere Fischer, and his seven children: Julie Sullivan, Sheila Vitek (Bruce), Eileen Ahern, Nancy McCullough (Scott), Cathy Jones (Pat), Bill Ahern Jr., and Matthew Ahern (Melissa) in addition to his eleven grandchildren and one great-grandson: Tom, Anna, & Quinn Sullivan, Parker & Tera Vitek, Carly & Katie McCullough, Sam & Abigail Jones, Peyton & Declan Ahern and Owen Schmitz.

The Ahern Family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Enloe Hospice Care. They took wonderful care of Bill, and his family is forever grateful. There will be a Rosary held at Brusie Funeral Home on Friday, June 4, 2021 at 7 pm, followed by a funeral mass at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church, Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 10 am.
