New Resident Directors Welcomed in Saint Michael Hall

New Resident Directors join Saint John’s Prep

This semester we are welcoming Logan Spitzer and Al Killen to Saint Michael Hall as resident directors. Many of our students already know Mr. Spitzer, he is currently a part of our Student Services Team as a Guidance Counseling Intern. Al Killen is joining us from Berea College in Kentucky where he recently graduated with a degree in Sociology.

You can get to know both Mr. Spitzer and Mr. Killen in their introductory letters they’ve written to our students and community:

A Note from Mr. Spitzer

My name is Logan Spitzer. I have been at Saint John’s Prep since August, working on my school counseling internship, and I am excited for this new role! I also coached JV girls’ soccer and am currently helping coach Knowledge Bowl. I am originally from Winona, Minnesota where I attended Cotter High School, a small school much like Saint John’s Prep. After graduating from high school, I attended Saint John’s University where I majored in psychology. I played played rugby, competing at regional and national levels.

During my time at SJU, I also studied abroad in Salzburg, Austria for a semester and worked for the SJU Health Initiative. I am now in Saint Cloud State University‘s school counseling program, and will be graduating in May with a master’s degree in counseling psychology. Some of my other interests and hobbies include running, yoga, and taking care of my houseplants. I also enjoy the outdoors and am excited to spend some free time walking and hammocking in the Saint John’s Arboretum! I look forward to further engaging with the SJP community in this new capacity!

A Note from Mr. Killen

My name is Al Killen, I am so excited to join the Saint John’s Preparatory School community as a Residential Director to make a difference in the lives of the students by fostering a positive academic and residential environment. I am a recent graduate from Berea College in Kentucky Class of 2021 as a Bachelor’s of Art in Sociology major. I also hold an Associates’ degree from Highland Community College in Kansas that I obtained in 2018. I am passionate about working with the youth and empowering them through education and extra-curricular activities. I plan to be fully invested in the academic and social success of the students at Saint John’s Preparatory School. I come from a summer camp and service background working with kids of different age groups in a residential setting.

My favorite hobbies are exercising, playing sports, watching sports, traveling, exploring, hiking, trying new foods, sightseeing, and socializing with new people. I grew up in Silver Springs, Maryland, and am a descendent of Liberian West African parents. I was born in Accra, Ghana, and came to the United States at the age of 1 year old. I want to continue to push the Saint John’s Prep values of Diversity and Inclusion!

I want to thank Saint John’s Prep for giving me the opportunity to join a prestigious secondary institution and be part of a great residential community!

Al Killen
