Saint John’s Prep School Students Earn 2022 AAA Award

Bolton & Nydeen named Academics, Arts and Athletics Award Recipients

Seniors Matthew Bolton and Jaedyn Nydeen are the 2021-22 Saint John’s Prep recipients of the “Triple A (Academics, Arts and Athletics) Award” by the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL).  According to the MSHSL, the purpose of this program is to recognize and honor high school seniors who have excelled in the classroom, on the athletic field, and in the fine arts.

 

Matthew Bolton
Matthew is the son of Aaron and Nicol Bolton of Sartell. At Saint John’s Prep, Bolton is president of the National Honor Society and co-president of German Club. Bolton is a member of baseball, basketball and cross country teams. He was named to the all-conference baseball team in 2019 and 2021. Matthew is a member of the Saint John’s Prep Knowledge Bowl team and a 2021 Minnesota Class A Knowledge Bowl State Champion. Matthew is also president of the SJP Chess Club and serves as captain of the Esports chess team.

Matthew is also a semi-finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program and a College Board National Rural and Small Town Scholar. He also won the Yale Book Award and the SJP Excellence in German Award. Matthew volunteers as a Team Lead for the St. Cloud Hospital’s Junior Volunteer Program.

 

Jaedyn Nydeen
Jaedyn is the daughter of Lance and Pam Nydeen of St. Joseph. She’s served as captain of the basketball and soccer teams. This fall she was named to the Class A girls’ soccer all-state second team and is a three-time all-conference player in the Granite Ridge Conference. Jaedyn is also part of the Saint John’s Prep track team and has earned a varsity letter in all three sports since eighth grade.

Jaedyn plays the clarinet for the Saint John’s Prep band and has earned superior ratings at contest. She’s also an active member of National honor society and am a member of ‘She’s the First’ club that raises money for girls’ education in developing nations.

Jaedyn is an active member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church where she volunteers as an altar server and choir member. She also volunteers with the Joetown Rocks! Fourth of July Festival.

 

Criteria for the Triple A Award include:  Exhibit citizenship and be a respected individual in their home communities and school, have participated in a MSHSL-sponsored athletic program and fine arts activity, maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and comply with the MSHSL’s Student Code of Conduct. This year there will not be a Section 5A Triple A Award Banquet because of Covid-19 health and safety concerns.
