SJP honors CSB/SJU Archivist Peggy Roske Posted on January 7, 2025 in Activities, Faculty News, Press Releases, Student News Peggy Roske, Archivist for Saint John’s University and the College of Saint Benedict is retiring! Peggy Roske’s history lessons have taught us about rats, bears and ghosts. She’s shared stories of Collegeville’s pioneering monks and Central Minnesota’s Indigenous people. We’ve learned about ski hills, tornadoes, fires, and stone arches. We now know about our evolution from a school tucked into the eaves of the Quad, to our own modernist campus built into a hill. We’ve grown from a high school and pre-seminary for boys into a middle and upper school for young women and men from Central Minnesota and the world. As CSBSJU Archivist Peggy Roske SBHS ’73 prepares for retirement, we are honored to celebrate her contributions to our campus community. Thank you for sharing, teaching and inspiring our Johnnies! Ms. Roske visited PrepTalk with the entire Prep student body on January 7 to receive a gift of appreciation. Each fall Ms. Roske honors our legacy and our school’s founding with a special history talk for Saint John’s Prep students. We’re grateful to Ms. Roske for teaching us about our history, campus mysteries, tall tales and practical jokes! She’s shared what it means to be a Benedictine and revealed a rich background based on stewardship, stability, respect, and hospitality. We’ll treasure Ms. Roske’s stories of our Johnnie forefathers and foremothers who helped create the Saint John’s Prep community the way we know it today. “It has been an honor, a privilege and a pleasure to help the Prep community learn about its history and heritage, and the more we know what the past teaches us about Benedictines and human nature, the better equipped we are to effect positive change for the future.” Besides serving as our campus archivist, Ms. Roske is a special member of the Prep community for many other reasons. She’s the mother of Ben ’07 and JJ ’11. She’s married to Mike ’73 and she graduated from Saint Benedict’s High School in 1973. In addition to our annual history talks, she also shares Prep history with our alumni during our annual summer reunions.
