“I hope that we will be able to develop initiatives and set into motion actions that will positively impact the lives of women today as well as future generations.”

Saint John’s Prep Senior Nora Miller has been named to the Governor’s Young Women’s Cabinet. Governor Tim Walz and Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan announced the appointment last week. Nora is the daughter of Aaron and Jen Miller of Cold Spring and the sister of Isaac ’26.

The Young Women’s Cabinet is a partnership between the Governor’s Office and the Women’s Foundation of Minnesota to achieve equity in opportunities and improve the lives of young Black and Indigenous women, women of color, and gender-expansive people. Nora is one of the 32 young leaders from across Minnesota selected to serve.

“Being named to the Young Women’s Initiative Cabinet will provide me the opportunity to engage with other young women who share a passion for addressing issues impacting underserved and underrepresented women our state, Nora said. “I am excited for the opportunity to be a part of a group of women who actively strive to bring about change by making their communities stronger.”

Since 2016, the Young Women’s Cabinet has developed a legislative agenda, testified at the Capitol, and directed more than $3 million in grants to Minnesota communities.

“Serving on the Young Women’s Cabinet is a unique opportunity to make an impact on the lives of current and future Minnesotans,” said Governor Walz in a November 22 media release. “I am grateful for this diverse group of leaders and excited to see them pave the way for the next generation of Minnesotans to thrive.”

Most of the young women on the cabinet are from the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area. Nora hopes to offer a perspective that represents young people from outside the Twin Cities.  “Given that I am one of just a few young women from greater Minnesota on the Cabinet, I have the opportunity to provide insight on issues that women in Greater Minnesota face that my peers from the metropolitan area may not. At the same time, I am excited to learn about issues that women face in the metropolitan area that may different than women in outstate Minnesota. “

Nora is an active member of the Class of 2023 and has served as a captain of the soccer and basketball teams. She’s also served in student government as a vice president and member of student council. Nora is also a class ambassador for the SJP Guidance Department and is a member of the National Honor Society. After school each day she volunteers as the assistant coach for the Saint John’s Prep middle school basketball teams.
