Christmas Blessings from Saint John’s Prep

In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
He was in the beginning with God.
All things came to be through him,
and without him nothing came to be.
What came to be
through him was life,
and this life was the light of the human race;
the light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness has not overcome it.
John 1:1-5

Christmas is a time of joy and great anticipation. We reflect with gratitude on the year that has been and look forward to the promise of the new year to come. Perhaps most importantly, and more so this year than in other years, Christmas provides us with an opportunity for renewal and new beginning. With the passing of the solstice, we move from the season of darkness to a new season of light that ultimately will culminate with the magnificence of Easter.
In his most recent encyclical letter, Fratelli Tutti, Pope Francis offers a powerful message of the hope central to the Christmas message: “Hope speaks to us of a thirst, an aspiration, a longing for a life of fulfillment, a desire to achieve great things, things that fill our hears and lift our spirit to lofty realities like truth, goodness and beauty, justice and love. Hope is bold…and can open us up to the grand ideals that make life more beautiful and worthwhile. Let us continue then to advance along the paths of hope.”

In this season of hope and renewal, joy and celebration, all of us at Saint John’s Prep wish you and your family a blessed Christmas and a joyous New Year.
