An Original Biographical Musical
Performances this weekend!
The Story
Based on true events, That’s Just the Way It Is a biographical musical written by Brandon Anderson, Theatre Director at Saint John’s Preparatory School, with music composed by SJP senior Kai Kang. The story follows one man’s journey of self-discovery as he searches for acceptance of his rare multi-system genetic disease, Tuberous Sclerosis.
The show is an invitation for audiences to observe the constraints of physical disabilities and through the magic of theatre look deeper into the consciousness of a person. By tearing down the walls of shame, humiliation, and indignity we witness the heartfelt touching tale of overcoming one of life’s most challenging obstacles.
This production will be staged at Saint John’s Prep in the Weber Center. Parking is available in front of the school.
The Saint John’s Prep Theatre Department is bringing Disney’s A Hunchback of Notre Dame to life! The cast and crew is bringing this sweeping score and powerful story to the stage at the Paramount Center for the Arts March 22-24, 2024! Be prepared to be swept away by the magic of this truly unforgettable musical!
This production will take you to Paris with an epic cathedral size set, vivid backdrops and exciting special effects. More than 60 Saint John’s Prep students in grades 6-12 are bringing this tale to life! The shows will also feature a background choir with singers from the Great River Chorale, Saint John’s Abbey, and Saint John’s Prep alumni. Be prepared for powerful performances and heart stopping music!
The story comes from the book by Victor Hugo and includes songs from the Disney film. Prep’s production is set at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris and features the title character, Quasimodo, who is the cathedral’s bell-ringer. Quasimodo’s uncle is the intimidating Dom Claude Frollo who orders Quasi to stay hidden in the bell tower. Quasimodo defies his uncle and leaves the church and befriends the beautiful Esmeralda. The show follows Quasimodo’s efforts to protect Esmeralda from his uncle.
The show runs March 22-24 at the Paramount Center of the Arts in St. Cloud, MN. Tickets are $25 for adults and $17 for children. Click here to reserve your seats today! American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation will be offered at 7:30pm on March 23.
