Prep Students Spend Summer in Japan

Sjp Students In Japan 2023

Three Johnnies are spending part of their summer in Japan. Emma Zaun ’24, Scout Swanstrom ’24 and Victoria Grandy ’23 are living at Kaisei Gakuin High School, Prep’s partner school in Hokkaido, Japan.

The one-month study opportunity offers Johnnies the chance to learn about another culture and immerse themselves in the Kaisei Gakuin community as teaching assistants.

Their mission is to help Japanese students improve their conversational English skills. Of the three Preps in Hokkaido, only Emma ’24 speaks Japanese. It is a fun challenge for all of the young people to learn from each other as they work together.

Besides time in the classroom, Emma, Scout and Victoria are also enjoying personal tours and road trips in this beautiful region of Japan. They’re also spending time with their new friends’ families in their homes.

Each year Prep sends a small group to spend a month at Kaisei Gakuin. In return, the school also sends students to Prep- some for a year and some for just a few days. It is a unique partnership that both schools enjoy!
